Dice Games, Game Night, and a Social Life
I have to admit—I love my kids dearly, but they can put a damper on the social life. First off, you can’t do as much because of the hoops, like finding a sitter, packing up the gear, and so on, but also because if you do stay out late, they really don’t have the common courtesy to sleep in for you. It might be tons of fun dancing until 2 am, but it’s a pretty rude awakening at 6 am with a baby crying for a bottle or a toddler ready for breakfast.
So, my friends and I found a solution—Adult Game Night for Board Games, dice games, or sometimes just eating and chatting. We rotate houses; everyone brings an appetizer to share and their own drinks. We tote the kids along and they are pretty content to just all play together. This way, only one person has to clean their house, we all share in the cooking and cost, and both the adults and the kids get a little peer interaction. We’ve been doing it for a few months and it’s really been fun.
The latest game craze is the LCR dice game. At first glance, this may seem like a pretty benign game. But, let me tell you, it can get crazy. Sometimes the guys will want to up the stakes from our usual 25 cent buy in to a dollar or even more. (And after a few drinks, let’s face it…bad decisions are made.)
But it is all in good fun. This week, game night is at my house and I definitely like dice games over other games. I am no good at the trivia and I’m not a fan of games that require a lot of concentration—it cuts into my conversation. So I think we’ll stick with the LCR dice game. It’s guaranteed to be fun. But I definitely plan on checking into more dice games, because we’ll be due for a change soon.
To get ready, I cleaned out the playroom, ordered up some hot wings and found some really cute plates and napkins with little dice on them. Yes, there is a younger version of myself doubled over in laughter, and my dancing shoes only come out for special occasions. But having a great group of friends and being able to be together with our kids and enjoy each other’s company is something I look forward to every week.
